We live in the DC area but are originally from Buffalo, NY. Everyone we know there regularly shops at Aldi. I was at first unconvinced (I've gotten so many spoiled items from Harris Teeter and Giant and even a worm in some fish AND some eggs from Whole Foods that I figured how could this place possibly be safe?) NPR has been running an ad for the spiral sliced ham from Aldi. My mom cooks it all the time, and it's great. Lots of good lunch box snacks, bricks of cheese (a la Cracker Barrel) cost about $2 each- sometimes even less. And as PP said, you can often get good produce there and some $5 bouquets of flowers.

It hasn't opened yet. It's still under construction, but it looks like it's likely to open in the Spring. The exterior is pretty close to complete and in the last few days, they put up the roadside marquee sign for Aldi. I've shopped at the store in Lanham and I'll definitely be checking out the Beltsville store when it opens as it is much closer.

Not more packed than other grocery stores on the weekend. Very easy to navigate if you go early. If you can sneak in on a week night it is practically empty. There are great Chinese and Indian grocery store around the corner - loads of fresh produce, dry beans, rice, etc to supplement whatever's at ALDi - and it not too far (up U. BLvd) to TJ's for Organic milk and meat
