It would never have occurred to me not to go to Zaytinya with kids - its actually a good place for dealing with picky eaters. I took my son to Jaleo and other tapas places a lot.

That said, the atmosphere wasn't quite right for kids when I was there. Very loud, very crowded, all grown-ups, kind of a party energy going on. I think kids would like the food (mine would). But to me it just seemed like the vibe was much more adult. YMMV.

Thanks, I'm going to wait until the hype dies a bit (and the foodies move on to the next thing). I live in the neighborhood so it's not a big deal.

Le Diplomate is fabulous, with a strong wine list. I went with a friend and was thinking I could bring my 5 y.o. We live in the neighborhood too, and take her most places arriving by 6:30, even the hot new places. No problems yet . . .

There is a smaller grouping of tables to the right of the entrance that is quieter.

I would have no desire to go there.

Applebees.

OP here!

Cracking up. I was going to suggest the Matchbox pizza place in Chinatown. I'm not sure if they have an Applebee's out that way. Kidding!

We eat there all the time! Super kid friendly. Most of Downtown is with so many families living there now.

DH and I had early reservations on a week night - 6pm- and left our toddler with a sitter thinking it would be too fancy for him. Not at all. Tons and tons of little kids there, and the back room by the patio had a very laid back vibe. Not sure how it would be later in the evening or on weekends.

Now I want to go to zaytinya but have stupid leftovers for dinner. Thanks OP

I thought this was kind of un-kid friendly, too, and nixed the idea when my family wanted to go there with my 18month old. However, since then, I feel like every time I go in there I see families with younger kids. Agree with others that it is loud and the environment is fairly convivial. Now I see it as a place where we COULD go as a family to have an excellent meal. I would, however, without exception take my kid(s) out if they were acting up or disrupting anybody's time.
