We switched recently and are fine with it. Service is a little less widespread than it is with ATT or Verizon but fine in urban areas. Slightly less service on metro for example, but not too bad. If you travel to more remote places then the coverage is lacking. We went to Charlottesville and stayed in a B&Bs outside the town and had no coverage (but our verizon device did). I live in VA though so can't really speak for MD.

My mom needs a phone for talk only. She always uses less than 100 minutes per month. Can anyone recommend a plan? Thanks!
We got my mom a pay as you go plan through ATT. The phone was (I think) about 20 bucks and then you buy minutes through phone cards or can do automatic renewal. The more minutes up front you purchase the cheaper it is. I think it's 10 dollars for 100 minutes.

We switched from AT & T to Republic Wireless and it has been great! Our cell bill went from $310 a month (We had five iphones) to $99.95 for all five lines. Five phones - Unlimited talk, text, and data. No contract. You do have to purchase the phones since you're not entering into a contract. I love my Moto X. I've had iphones for about six years. The Moto X is just so much better.

We live overseas and have a T-mobile sim card for when we visit the states - for $2/day you get unlimited voice, text, and internet. Pretty great deal! It's pay-as-you-go, so if you don't use it you don't get charged. Hope that helps!

Virgin Mobile has good plans if you don't need/want unlimited and they start at $35/month. And, if you care about that thing, Virgin offers the iPhone 4 and 4s.

We have Virgin...their lowest rate plan is like $20/3months. We don't use phones much, just for emergencies, but rates are good and you buy in 3 month increments.

The $20/3 month plan is grandfathered only. It has not been available for over a year now. Check out the “Howard Forums” for cell phone plan information from all providers.

It won't have as good coverage as Verizon. It's a trade off.
