The walnuts add a lot of calories, more so than other cakes.

This is one of the only responses that actually answers the original question.

When you live in an area that has mostly fat people, fat tends to be the norm. Because we live in an area that has a higher economic status and higher education among adults, we are more likely to be thin. That is why it is so easy to judge people who are fat. They should know better.

Part of what needs to happen to make it so that a piece of cake isn't 1500 calories is that everyone knows what the calorie counts are on things. A little bit of Cheesecake Factory shaming would be great. Shaming people does no one any good.

On the contrary, societies that consider being fat very shameful - like the japanese - have very low rates of obesity. In cultures in the US where fat is accepted, obesity is much higher.

Shaming works.

Do you think there might be other reasons why the Japanese traditionally have low rates of obesity???

Do you think it is just coincidence that wherever it is acceptable to be fat, there are lots of fat people, but where it isn't, there aren't?

You really, really need to work on your reasoning skills.

I get what the OP is saying. I make tons of deserts from scratch and the calories in a slice of what I make (and I don't use low-fat anything) is nowhere near what the calories are in a restaurant slice, even if I doubled my slice. I have no idea where all those calories come from either!

It sounds like OP was trying to do it consciously, as well.

I took my kids (ages 4 and 6) to The Cheesecake Factory, and we got one piece of cheesecake to split. We ate almost half. I would have taken it home, but it looked like it had been scavenged. Point being, those desserts are not meant to be eaten at a single sitting by one person.

You're kidding, right? If you do the Chicken and Biscuits 2262 + the Carrot cake 1550 you end up with 3812. The chicken and biscuits alone is more calories than I eat in an average day (I eat around 2100-2400 calories).

We do eat at Cheesecake Factory (it's been a traditional anniversary dinner for us for years), but we almost always eat half our dinner and half a dessert. We take the other half of both for lunch or dinner the next day. Even still, it comes in around 1500-1700 calories and is probably my biggest calorie meal for the week.

Here's another list. There are 3 desserts worse than 1550 in this slideshow:

I don't really want to know how many calories are in black salt's chocolate peanut butter cake. Actually, if a magical genie took away my celiac I wouldn't care.

PS I am not even 100lbs ... liking cake does not equal fat.

I responded to you post that "shaming people does no one any good", but did not make the original post. I do not myself shame fat people, but as someone who lost a lot of weight due in large part to society's disapproval, I took issue with your statement.
