I totally agree. As a parent of a gifted kid in DC, it is very isolating. I can't talk to friends about my child's progress, nor do I feel free to ask questions in the general parenting board as I will just be harassed because my problems are not the kind most face. But they are still there, and the challenges are somewhat harder as there is no defined community or programs in DC. For now, I am using other boards like hoagies, well-trained mind, or davisons, but it would be extremely useful to be able to use DCurbanmoms, especially if there is going to be a category associated with this type of issue. Why limit it to those who live in Virginia?

I just thought that since there's a special needs forum, there ought to be a gifted kids forum. A FCPS AAP forum seems a little too narrowly focused, but I don't really care either way. I'm not an AAP parent, just someone who wanted to give input.

Does it veer into AAP discussion or just for you? I think separate out by VA schools, AAP, MoCo schools, etc.

I think it should be separated out by Fairfax County, not just AAP. When people ask about schools, it often veers into a discussion of AAP centers. The other school district's threads get lost. The general students' parents in FX are surely tired of AAP discussions, but its at least within their school district so relevant.

It's not about gaming the system for most of us. If you look at the AAP topics currently being discussed, you would see that.

I also would support a Gifted/AAP catagory, since the topics are often overlapping.
