Agree that it's school dependent. Our XC/track coach is happy to have large teams but is very clear that people need to make the commitment to the team which includes practice 5-6 days a week. Winter track is particularly challenging because indoor tracks are few and far between in this area and most meets are limited in terms of entrants so there is less opportunity to compete if you aren't decent.
Golf was super competitive at my DCs school because the team is small and due to high SES there are a decent number of golfers.

Crew? I didn't realize that high schools around here had crew (I'm from the west coast, and my kids aren't old enough for high school yet!). That is awesome! I was a coxswain for my university's mens team. I would love for my kids to be involved. My oldest (son) is in 7th grade currently, but has absolutely no rowing experience (like I said--I didn't even really know it was in schools around here.) We are not in the Robinson (or even in Fairfax county) district though. I'll have to look and see if the schools we are elligible for have it!
Crew is huge here.

Yes, even Wilson HS a DCPS high school has crew.
Go ahead and underestimate our kids and our program.
Show your kids all about good sportsmanship and how wise is is to underestimate your competition.
Wilson will just keep on rowing.

Club = travel. Not talking about rec/house league.
