Ick, no. Cold sores are caused by herpes virus, which can be transmitted through kissing. Not worth it when you probably don't want that smooch from grandpa anyway.

My family does it (American). I kiss my mom & dad on the lips still but not my sister (cheek). My husband's family also does it to some degree (sometimes my SILs peck me on the lips). I also have some friends male & female who do this (I don't initiate). I kiss my 3 kids on the lips. I'm fine either way. If left to me, i'd actually kiss (vs air kiss) someone on the cheek but i'm mostly fine if someone pecks on mouth. There are so many bigger things to lose sleep over!

Maybe he didn't like being kicked out of his bed to sleep on the couch. {ut your don to bed in another room and ask your husband to sleep with you. It will likely do wonders for your marriage.

+1 and I was born and raised in E Europe. Not the norm in my home country.

My dad used to do that and I think I Dodd as a small child but outgrew it by early elementary. I don't remember thinking my dad judging me was odd, but I always hatred it because his breath smelled like booze. My moms side of the family isn't at all touchy feely. I'm not particularly affectionate but I think it's generally ok to kiss a small child on the lips. It's just not something I choose to do and if our happens I'll wipe my mouth first chance I get.in general lip kidding grosses me out except with close family members.

I'm Portuguese and we don't kiss on the lips. We do cheek kisses.

Sorry, I think kissing on the lips other than a partner is gross. (but I have germ problems) My kids at their age don't want to kiss on the lips either, they don't mind the cheek kisses.

My mom tries to kiss me on the lips (I'm 40), and I dodge it.

I think it's only ok between spouses and from parents to very little kids. I love getting kisses on the lips from my 4 year old but don't do it with my 7 year old.

The marital problems are one thing, and affection with your child is fine, but it sounds like you're trying to substitute what's missing from your spouse, with your child. Are you in therapy? Personal, marital, or otherwise?

Interesting - my dad is the only one I know who does this - and he is German (though he is 3rd generation - although, even his parents were still pretty connected back to Germany).
