13:33--OP here. One can withdraw from any school after completing enrollment. That's how waiting list spots open up.

Believe it or not, I was actually here seeking informed advice. With vitriolic exceptions like 13:33, I received it, particularly re. considering the commute.

Attention everyone trying to sincerely help this OP: Don't bother, it is a troll 100% for sure. The deadline was Monday for getting your YY enrollment paperwork in for those off the waitlist. When YY takes people off the list and makes offers, they remove their names from the WL online. NO NAMES have been removed from the online waitlist since the Monday deadline.

Anyone saying they have to make a YY decision this week is full of it. This is just a cold-hearted troll that likes making people who have no choices feel even worse. Ignore it.

Yu Ying's are much better. It also has a higher rating on Greatschools and a higher rating from the PCSB.

Better consistently across all grades (up to 5th anyway)? I find that hard to believe. Since the other ratings are not grade specific, I guess I understand those. But was YY even on PCSB's rating list last year beyond being a PreK?

Yes, significantly better. There is only data for 2 grades, because YY has only administered the DC CAS for 2 years (this is the 3rd, but obviously those results aren't in yet, as they're taking it this week). The scores are 15% to 30% higher across the board.

Agree.

We had a similar choice last year for PK - got into YY and Cap City. We just loved the idea of a permanent school - with new facilities and activities to match - and weren't that excited about learning Chinese as a family (I do not have an ear for languages). We are thrilled with our decision and our commute is very easy.

I would say if it is possible to send your DC to both then do it. Just know that you will probably want to have it in your mind that next year you should choose one shcool

No way would I choose to drive my kids to school if there was a great alternative within walking distance. The drive, parking and drop off will get old over the years. And I think it is crazy to have kids at two different schools unless you have no other option. Your life will be much saner with one drop off at a location close to home.
