I'm an MB, and I would have no problem with a nanny or au pair wearing a bikini to the pool with my kids. The only issue I would have is if the bikini bottom were a thong or g-string. Other than that, she should wear what she wants.

I think for function you are better off in a one piece, because kids are always pulling on straps and running around and a one piece gives a bit more security that it will stay in place, in particular the top. You don't want to have to make a split second decision to keep your top on vs to keep a hold of a wiggling kid in a pool. You can still look cute in a one piece and target has some affordable ones that look nice.

I'm also a nanny and I always wear bikinis. I make sure they're not string and have sturdy straps and everything is held in, but I've honestly never had any issues with any mishaps. I've found I'm not able to move as well in either one pieces or skirted suits, either because I'm uncomfortable, or in the case of skirted bottoms, they have so much extra fabric that I can't move as fast.

When watching kids at the pool I think it's pretty important that I'm at my most comfortable (whatever that may mean for the individual) so that I'm not worried about myself when watching the kids.

But there are plenty of tank suits that expose boobs just as well, or bum, which is why I don't understand the controversy...the main difference, isn't it, is that a tank suit covers up the belly and back, which-- at least from what I've been teaching my kids, and correct me if I'm wrong-- are not considered private parts.

I'd think a sporty ish bikini is fine. A string one just isn't practical - if you don't own any that give more coverage, I'd get one.
