Furloughs have started on the Hill. I know of several furloughs already.

Shocker. Not.

WASHINGTON -- Attorney General Eric Holder says he will not need to furlough any Justice Department employees in the current fiscal year.

My spouse's agency has announced that they will close the agency on 5 days (which have been announced) between mid-May and the end of August with the potential for up to 2 more days in July and August. All public services will be unavailable and only certain mission-critical and essential personnel positions will be able to report to work. They decided that it would be easier and more cost effective to close the agency and have all employees take the same furlough days so they could also save on the costs of maintaining and running the facilities (e.g HVAC, lights, etc). Forlough notices went out starting last week.

Obviously given the bombing investigation the money is there when it needs to be. No chance furloughs are happening in law enforcement or intel components.

I'm guessing the same. My DH had some training cancelled, but no information about furloughs.

Numbers are expected this week, with some components starting Friday or next week depending (if needed).

Since we all had to chip in to keep BOP up and running (again, I say let the criminals out on the street - if Feds aren't needed I'm sure convicts can run free) we are recalculating.

This is false. No furloughs were starting this week. An update on possible days was expected this week- nothing so far (although every update has the days dwindling and reduced). I'm guessing ZERO days for DOJ and it's components.

Our component was (initially) told that furloughs would start April 21st, so it seems like a final decision on this issue would need to be announced sooner rather than later.

So are you supposed to take Monday off? What is the guidance?

There hasn't been any guidance.

What a cpmplete and utter joke.
