I have a veggie and perennial garden in my front yard (20816) and we do all our yardwork. Our next door neighbor on one side does theirs too, but pretty much everyone else in the hood uses the same leaf-blowing yard service.

I get tons of positive comments from people walking by, and kids love it.

It is hard work, but the best kind. I spent 7 hours in the yard Sunday. I would quite my job and work in my garden FT if someone would pay me.

My husband and I do our own yard work. He mows, I garden, mulch, plant. We really are in the minority. One landscape company comes by once a week and does everyone's lawn, except ours and our elderly neighbors'.

My other neighbors have neat lawns, but that's it. No flowers, no plantings, just plain. One neighbor drove by and told me (in a critical tone) that "I'm always in my garden pulling weeds." I love it. Its a great stress reliever.

Hi Neighbor! I feel the same way (and so does my wallet). I think it's funny when I'm out there mowing my lawn people pull over in their pick ups and ask me if I want to hire them. It's not that hard (or weird) to mow your own lawn!

I love gardening, and I'm the only one on my very long block who gardens. There's a woman who has a vegetable garden at the far end of the block, but not a single person has a real garden. Lots of landscapers planting annuals, mulching, mowing. It's depressing to see all the same kinds of shrubs in everyone's yard. When I grew up everyone gardened. It was a small town, and people traded plants, stopped to admire one another's garden each spring and summer. I wish I had more time to garden, but I only hire a service when I'm desperate, like now that we're selling our house. The rest of the time it looks shaggy, but I like it that way, and I love all my perennials and unusual plants that no one else has!

If only my neighbors cared enough to do it themselves or hire a service! Some of us have beautiful yards, both DYI and via service. Others have never even heard of an edger and barely drag out a lawnmower every 3 or 4wks.

I want to night-raid their lawn and edge along the sidewalks and curb and trim their bushes!

If we ever put our house on the market I swear I'm going to hire a landscaper for them so they don't bring down our property value! LOL

All nice people, but 3 or 4 houses can make a section of the block look crappy.

My next door neighbors are Chinese and they work on their yard and planting beds about 10 house each day. I think they pull weeds the minute they pop out of the ground. I've never seen people more fastidious about their garden.

We have 2 Asian neighbors who are the same. They have these massive trellises in their backyards and are constantly working on their gardens. In the summer it's magnificent. I'm going to walk over there one day and ask them for tips.
