$1,000 in $20s. We don't borrow from this and it's kept in a hidden drawer behind a drawer in an antique desk.

We keep $5000 in the safe. To think about it, there's no reason to keep that much. Maybe to buy an international ticket out of here ?

Keep some cash for an emergency. The ATMs could be down for days and you might need water, food, ice, medicine, or fuel now.

I wouldn't keep too much cash in your home. I have anxiety issues about this. I fear a fire or a theft.

I would say it depends on your personal needs.

In this day and age where you can pay for most anything w/debit cards, I would say nothing more than one hundred.
