Subject: When to have baby's ears pierced?
I think it's the same crazy poster posting over and over again saying it's mutilation. It's the same over the top anger in each post.

People's ears are not DISFIGURED when they get them pierced. You are not depriving someone of a limb. Oh and yeah you caught me. I'm actually taking my four year old DD out to get triple piercings tomorrow. Did you skip your meds or something? You are quite nuts about this. My DD won't be able to get her ears pierced until she's a teenager and that's my prerogative just as OP has the right to do what she wants. Why don't you just worry about your own kids.

Culture is not a defense. In some cultures, women aren't allowed to read. Does that mean it's okay to opress women? Just because some culture thinks it's cool? Of course not. Likewise "but it's my cultuuuuuure" is not a valid argument for damaging a baby's body without her consent.
Same goes for circumcision, btw.

If's it's that big a part of your "culture", you would already know a good time to get your baby's ears pierced because you would have noticed when your baby sisters, cousins, neighbors, friends, nieces, etc. got theirs done. Not at all. Just pointing out the flaw in PP's argument that because some backwards culture does something a certain way means it is acceptable.

Look people, piercing a baby's ears is just weird. It's painful. The baby doesn't want it or know what is going on, it requires cleaning, etc. And maybe she will not want her ears pierced when she is older. Why make that choice FOR her? It's just WEIRD. I dont care if it's a cultural thing or not. In my culture, it's freaking WEIRD!
