If it ain't broke don't fix it! It's the start of a beautiful friendship. We are too obsessed with dirt in our culture. Change the crib sheets more often and take lots of pictures for the baby book.

I'm in the cute-but-unsafe camp. But again, I'm not in the desperate for baby-to-sleep mode right now, so I can see that factoring in. If your baby won't wake up then you move the cat, I think the best bet would be to move the cat and lock him out of the room, even if this ticks off the cat!

No, she wouldn't wake up if I took him out, but he would be pissed and try to jump back in which might wake her up. I think part of it is that he was separated from his brother last year (whom he used to snuggle all the time), and he thinks the baby is his new snuggle buddy.

Sorry for grossing out all you non-cat people. I'm not too worried about kitty litter or cat hair even though it does sound kind of gross. My kid is much less likely to have allergies!

My cat is terrified of the baby. He won't even let the baby close to him, and he's not even crawling yet. I want to see a picture of this.

I don't think I would allow it for many of the reasons PP's suggested, not to mention DH would be super-pissed because he hates the cat (he's allergic).

I agree that it is really adorable... I also agree that it may be difficult not to want to go ahead and allow it when you REALLY want your baby to sleep..

but my gut reaction is no, I couldn't allow it, not until my baby was quite a bit older..

I also agree that taking the cat out once baby is asleep might be your best bet.

Given SIDS I would not but then again, I"ve not had a non-sleeping child recently.

My cat never sleeps with anyone except when my FIL visits. He opes the door for her and they sleep together, every time! He's a dog owner...never owned a cat. I think it's weird but consensual.

Rationally, I would never allow it.

But.....if my baby never slept except for when the cat was in the crib....well....eventually I may cave.

Do you think the room is too cold, or the baby needs more clothing. My guess is that the cat is warm. I know my son had to have on those blanket things (that have armholes, but are a sleeping bag at the feet). Sorry, its been awhile. You might want to try that before you allow the cat.

I'm not a cat person so perhaps thats why my reaction to this is WHAT THE HELL!? I can't in a million years, imagine why anyone would think this is ok.

I would be a bit worried but my cat is heavy and I feel like she is stealing my breath when she sleeps on ME. The cat does like to snuggle up to a nursing baby
