I hope she will like me. I am willing to accept the person my DS marries for love. I hope she is accepting too.

My mother used to jokingly advise us to marry an only child orphan and I found the joke distasteful. Now I totally get it!

Man, she's old.

I know that my DIL won't be my best friend but I hope that I am cultured and interesting enough for her to respect and love me. And I hope my DS puts me on a pedestal like my DH does with him own mother.

I love my MIL...she isn't my best friend, like my own mom, but I love her...and she loves me!

She'll think I'm awesome because I'll calmly explain to her when we meet: "I'm not like a regular MIL, I'm a cool MIL." And yes, I'll be drinking at 1 in the afternoon and sporting some retro juicy velour pants!

I wish I had a DIL and grandchildren are looking improbable at this point, too. I would be a great MIL!

My husband is such a mamma's boy. We never see my family and spend time with his. When I'm a MIL I would like my son to be free to grow up. I would hope my DIL was happy spending time with us.

She won't because I have only girls!
Then again, maybe in this day and age that isn't a prerequisite to not having a DIL!

She'll tell him she thinks I am going color blind because she can't imagine why else I wear such flashy outfits. She won't believe I used to tend toward preppy frumpy.

She'll think I need to tone down the make-up and learn how to apply lipstick properly.

She'll also complain I am too noisy in bed with his father/my husband/her FIL.

PP, you made my day. We could definitely be old ladies together.

I love my MIL. She's gracious and classy, yet a tough old Irish bird. I send her a card on DH's birthday to thank her for raising such an awesome son.

I hope my children's spouses will feel the same about me.

Same here. I am honestly closer to my MIL than I am to my own mother. We have an awesome time together when she comes to visit, and she has been a shoulder to cry on several times during my marriage. I'll be devastated when she's gone.

That I don't try to pigeonhole her like my MIL tries to - anything for gossip! Ew.

My MIL is a raging bitch devil woman, so as long as I do everything the exact opposite of how my MIL does it, I should be ok. I would LIKE to think that I will be welcoming and easy to get along with...I want my DIL to feel a member of the family and not be hated from day 1 for being an outsider.
