Subject: Preppy Boys Names? or Names that mean something in another language?

I have a Chase. I don't know if it's properly preppy though. I think of preppy as names that could be last names. But that's just my notion of it.

Die Liebe means love in German.
Der Leib means body or belly in German.
Either are horrid choices for a name.

Another German here. Wanted to correct this, too (but then didn't want to come off as a Besserwisser). And would you name your kid Love??
For that matter, "agape" means something in English, too - and that is certainly not what you want for a name.

Must be regional - in the South, there are tons of Treys, for the III, and also Trace or Tres as a derivative of that with the influence of Spanish speakers.

No, Trey was a Sex and the city character. And Trey is also a nickname for a third, I know two of them, one a baby and another that is my age.

Agree that among some true "prep" crowds given names tend to be classic, like John or George. In my mom's extended New England family there are some old-school prep types. There's a George IV who goes by Thumper, an Elizabeth who is called Gabby, Lawrence is Locke, etc. There is a book called Seating Arrangements that has several examples of over-the-top preppy names.
