Hi, there is a day care in DuPont at the Augusta Lutheran Church called Semillitas Early Childcare http://semillitaschildcare.com/admissions/. Not exactly sure of the rates but I think they may be in your ball park. You may also want to check out this website:

Some of the non-school options are daycares that go through PK4.

Just a heads up, these prices are way out of date. I started reading this thread not realizing it was so old, and I was shocked to see people thinking $2000/month was expensive. An infant spot in a center in one of these neighborhoods in NW DC is easily $2200-$2500/month now (assuming no federal or other employer discounts). And that's with a year long or more waitlist. It's outrageous.

HaHa, me too! I thought I was in some sort of alternate reality! You'd be lucky to find a place as low as $2K/month now. The Bright Horizons by my work in NW DC is like $2,400/mo

Once your son arrives he can enroll in your in-boundary elementary school, no matter how far into the school year they are. There are lots of summer camps for kids his age as well. He will be too old for any daycares.

We went through this too and decided that the best option was to enter a nanny share. Had a very experienced, good infant nanny for approx $1,700/month (including taxes). Hardly the cheapest option but couldn't afford our own nanny and didn't want to wait for the center or have our DS in the same room with 20 other infants. Just do a share. Our nanny charged $19/hr but you can find cheaper options too.

My children attend a GREAT little daycare center in Upper NWDC, it has decent rates, and we love it! I don't really consider it daycare, it's more like their second home. It's a "little hole in the wall"- if you will, on GA Ave. (you've probably passed it and not know what it was- no signage ) The center is not the newest place, but it is very comfy and clean! The staff is loving, and it's bilingual! The phone number is 202-829-6941. Good luck where ever you end up!

Spoiled kids and babysitters that take two days to check on missing children are good things?

I'm in the same boat here too, folks! It's absurdly expensive, and you apparently have to put your kid on a daycare waitlist a year before you get pregnant to get him/her in!

my sitter lives in forrestville maryland and charges 90 a week. she is a stay at home mom and has been sitting since her eldest son (who is not 26) was born. She takes kids from 6 weeks and up. if you work near andrews she is great! my two daughters are SPOILED ROTTEN BECAUSE OF HER. If my daighter is absent for two or more days she calls amd ask "is my baby ok? i havent seen her and i want to make sure she is ok" I would not trust anyone else with my kids!

Not to hijack this thread, but I am wondering if there are other suggestions for childcare with low-income requirements. I meet those and I would love to know more about centers that offer these possibilities!

I just googled Jubilee -- do they really count as affordable? It's $1400/month for infants up to 18 months. I guess if you meet the low-income requirments it could be lower...

Jubliee Jumpstart in Adams Morgan has a brand new facility with lower teacher to student ratio than most of other daycare facilities.
We actually toured Bright Horizon FDIC center last week in order to compare, and I was not impressed with them at all.
I don't like the fact Jubliee Jumpstart closes 19 additional days on top of all federal holidays, but I like the curriculum they have for the infants, toddlers and pre schoolers. I find kids (my kid is in the toddler's program currently) being so much more advanced in terms of developmentally at Jubliee Jumstart compare to other facilities.
