Without at least a 3-car? Typical potomac new money try-too-hard housewife.

Or, someone cracking a joke. Sheesh.

NP I got the joke!

LOL - Who HAS a garage in NOVA? Seriously.

Almost everyone outside the beltway. Ooooh, the dark side...

Exactly! I was trying to think of places where SFH don't have garages! I guess that would be inside the beltway.

Yes. Most of the neighborhoods I can afford don't have any garages, or very very few. But I happened to luck out and get a house with a garage when I moved last summer, and I have to say I love it!
My sister put a carport on her NoVA home last summer and it cost her about $15,000.

I live in a million++ close-in NOVA neighborhood and almost nobody has a garage or just has an unattached one in the back of the house.

I needed a garage.

Like a pp said, I'd consider other factors in the house. We bought without a garage, but we also didn't have a basement. Now, we are constantly struggling with storage - We ended up getting a shed for outdoor tools, mower, etc. but it's not a good place to store indoor large things (like xmas decorations, etc) so we are struggling with this. Just consider what other storage spaces the potential house has.

I think it totally depends on location. I wouldn't buy w/out garage where most homes have garages. But if I were in a close, older suburb without garages, I might do it. In both cases I'd be thinking of resale.

I have bought two houses with no garage. We only saw a few houses with garages during our search. As long as I have assigned parking (in my first house, a townhouse) or a driveway (my second house, a SFH), I don't care. I do need to buy a shed, though, for my mower and other tools. $1K for a shed is cheaper than paying $50K extra for a house with garage! (assuming it's not more like $150K!)

I never understood detached garages either.

that's where DH sleeps when he is bad

you don't have a guest house? Simple peasant.

You have mistaken our primary arlington house as the shed
