Just spoke with my Dad and......kidding. Sorry, that seemed like a funny way to start.
He has been Pope for 8 years. The idea that the scandal was getting worse is just silly. To resign is a bold move which leads me to believe it is Alzheimer's or dimentia of some sort. His mind can't fulfill the duty. He had very large shoes to fill after JP and he did it admirably and with humility.

Anyway, don't care why the old creep is leaving. I just hope that his replacement is someone who spends more time thinking about the social good the church can do, and less time about all the ways "the bible" can oppress people and limit their choices.
Of course, let us move the Church away from it biblical mission and have it become a social service organization.
Well, one could argue that "social service" is the biblical mission of the church. From the gospels:
Luke 5:31, 32 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."
I think the kind of Catholic or the kind of Christian you are depends upon how you interpret words such as these. I, and the clergy I respect, interpret these words to mean that they should minister with love to all who come through the doors of their church, and that it is not their place to pass judgment but to proclaim the gospel and to allow it to work in the hearts of each person in their own way. What purpose is served by turning away sinners with judgment? This was not Jesus' way; nor should it be the way of our church. And we would do well to remind ourselves that we are ALL sinners.
You know little about the Catholic Church if you do not understand that it is one of the largest providers of social services as it fulfills its biblical mission, but it is not solely a social service agency with only secular focus. Thus, it will not change doctrine to embrace the popular opinion of current time no matter how much people embrace issues like abortion, etc. If the Church changes it official position on issues like abortion, it has not fulfilled its biblical mission even though you may believe it fills your definition of social mission.

This documentary blow the lid off the church. The Pope had to resign after this stuff got out.

You aren't serious, are you? A work of fiction with biblical and historical inaccuracies and you are calling it a documentary?
Nice try, but that isn't what the initial poster referenced.
