Whitney Cummings was on Howard Stern this week and said she used to work out in those tiny Nike shorts ("norks") with no underwear and was kicked out of a gym because people could see her vagina when she did sit-ups.

Gross.

To my fellow male yogis:
Compressions shorts. I can't believe anybody would wear boxers under loose fitting shorts. Unless you're an old guy trying it for the first time. There's really no excuse. You should know better.
While I'm at it, those of you who go shirtless, please stop.
Finally, wash your feet before class and take a look at your toenails. There is a thing called a toenail clipper.

The women in the class were very distracting. Who wears tiny boy short(camel toe), Bra tops and such with flabby bellies, anemic arms and no breasts. Women cover yourself as well.

And I am not going to start on the guys wearing speedos..

I stopped going quickly

You had me until you had anything to say about the size of someone's breasts. WTH does that have to do with the topic? The rest? Definitely, but cover up means cover up, regardless of the size of your breasts, otherwise you look like a perv who thinks it's A-OK as long as the breasts were aesthetically pleasing to you.

I agree with those who say people should stop being prudes. There are speedos or other small shorts/suits for men that cover everything needed, while allowing one to be MUCH cooler than larger fabrics. And, as noted, lots of women wear tight-fitting, small outfits. Stop the sexism then and get everyone covered up more.

I looked up men's yoga clothes once and got a bunch of "fishermen's pants." Not sure I could do tree pose in those.

The "compression shorts under gym shorts" idea is probably the best.

I thought you were kidding about the fishermen's pants when searching for men's yoga clothes:

I imagine that they could be useful if you need the drawstring to hang yourself.

As punishment for Googling men's yoga clothes I keep getting offers for silly looking two-tone Thai yoga fishermen's yoga pants which brings to mind two questions: 1.) would a Thai fishermen be caught dead in a pair of these things, and 2.) have you ever seen a fishermen doing yoga? Should have stuck to Googling porn...

Exactly. I'm a yoga teacher and yogi, and the only thing I ever remember a fellow practitioner wearing was this hot girl wearing a tight, almost see through tee - with no bra and hard nipples. I'm definitely not yogic enough not to notice! She was hot. Otherwise, the whole practice is about turning within. Try doing that.

In the US, bikram-style hot yoga is very much a female dominated practice so it may help to respect their sensibilities on this issue. If regular gym shorts tend to let too much hang out, then find something else to wear or add the compression shorts. The intense heat requires that you shed as much clothing as possible but it helps to try not to offend anyone. No one cares if a "hot" girl is showing some skin particularly in a mostly all women's workout venue and although it can be distracting, you never actually see women's "junk" on display.

On the other hand, some of the guys seem to be there because they are one jelly donut away from coronary failure. If you get a view of Mr. Plumber's butt crack or "junk" it can be offensive and not just as a women's issue. No junk for either gender please, there are naked yoga classes for the naturist types.

I do draw the line with teenage girls and women wearing yoga pants to church or school. Yikes, no wonder our boys are failing in school, they can't focus!

Most of us doing yoga aren't trying to be yogis, as I assume you know.

Some of the spiritual/mindfulness practices might help you, though. PPs on this thread are kind of a mess, psychologically.

Sure, but we're all human. In yoga, we generally try to minimize distractions. That's why yoga teachers usually put on New Age music and not Metallica or Katy Perry. And it's why we really don't want to see someone "hanging out."
