You need to include a motion to be awarded your attorney fees. that way if judge dismisses her motion, judge still has to rule on your motion. Chances are good you will get it. In addition to attorney fees, you might also include your work compensation, especially because it sounds like you are using uncompensated leave.

12:47 Are you serious? Spend more money?

12:01 Why don't you share custody?

You need to get a divorce lawyer who can file a cease and desist motion on her for harassment.

How can you assume that both parents are capable of being reasonable? The father here is harassing the mother with cases he can't win.

Really, if you can't help, go start a blog or something, where we don't have to read the small-mindedness and judgment here. People come here for help, they already know they're in a bad situation.

00:03 If your ex sues you for custody, and won't negotiate, you hire a lawyer not because you want to, but because you are afraid what might happen if you do not hire one. Divorce lawyers are an interesting breed.

If you're not sure how guardian ad litems fees are paid, why are you certain the cost is not allocated to the parents involved in the custody matters? Who else would pay but the parents?

17:51 Lawyers charge per hour. (Are you divorced?) Plus this is not a 5-minute phone conversation!

Court appointed attorney for the child is called a guardian ad letim. I would think both parties split the cost.

$100,000??? What was she trying to hide?

How did you jump from being charged legal fees with someone trying to hide something? Custody cases are litigation. On top of legal fees there are also the costs of experts, psychologists etc. every motion, hearing, brief costs thousands of dollars. Letters back and forth with other counsel. Fees add up very quickly. Knucklehead ex spouses with money to burn churn the process to bury the other side in debt as a strategy.

If you're not familiar with contested divorces don't opine here.

She wasn't hiding anything. That's what a custody battle costs, and she was trying to maintain custody. Which she did.

Another friend wanted to relocate and spent $35,000 before negotiating an agreement out of court. Her ex spent about the same.

Lawyers charge $500 an hour ... Do the math.
