We also received some average scores. NNAT was 120, Fairfax CogAT VQN 78, with subset Verbal 45, Quantitative 91, Nonverbal 83. We don't really know what to make of all the test results. We do feel that DC is currently getting an exceptional education in general education and loves school. The school does a fantastic job with pullouts and differentiation, and DC has received Level III services since first grade. We don't want to mess up a good thing, and we are looking forward to continuing in gen ed next year

This post makes me sad. Stop putting so much weight onto a few numbers. Stop comparing your kid to others by asking for scores to be posted. These are tests that measure verbal and nonverbal reasoning. They don't measure your kid's emotional intelligence--his ability to sense what others are feeling and how to respond. They don't measure his musical intelligence or his working memory. Or his ability to just be a nice kid. Or his athletic coordination. Your kid is very bright AND he took some tests.

Is he doing well in school? Does he like learning? Does he get along with others in his class? If the answer is yes, then move on from this testing.

Hey, be happy! Those are great scores. The NNAT is above average and the CogAT van is a very solid average.

+100. Although I would imagine you would find an equivalent to this in some of the NYC areas, maybe a few others. But as I keep telling people, there is really a life out there beyond FCPS. Don't get me wrong, we have a high quality education here that it top notch. But, gasp, it isn't the only top notched one "out there" either.

And to the person who said that my kid doesn't have to score at or above anyone's benchmark on a test to be awesome in my eyes, you totally nailed it.

Concur. I thought the school forum was supposed to talk about all aspects of VA public schools. Seems the only threads that get to the top are ones about AAP or testing. There is so much more to childhood, education and preparing our children for good citizenship and self sufficiency. Imagine the potential and the amount of information we could share if there was more to talk about than how to get your child into a gifted program!

"Have some compassion"??? As if there is something horribly wrong with her child that she is making fun of? "Honeybuns" is simply saying that she doesn't need her kid to score at or above benchmark on a test to be AWESOME in her eyes. You are the one that needs to get a grip.

I love this thread! Average is good! Now, that does NOT mean that GT/AAP/XYZ is bad. Why not shout it out? After all, this forum is for VA Public schools, not Fairfax AAP. Lets hear from ALL the average families out there!
