Sugar cookie dough covered with either whipped topping or a cream cheese mixture, with a variety of fruit on top. You can even drizzle some orange marmalade and sprinkle almond slivers. People love it every time.

Do you just roll out the sugar cookie dough like pizza dough, bake, and them let it cool completely before decorating?

Yep. Some recipes have a scratch "frosting" but I just mix a box of room temp cream cheese with marshmallow fluff and 1 tsp vanilla. Kraft has a recipe, a few varieties on AllRecipes, PioneerWoman has one, there are tons out there. People always ooh and ahh over it because its visually pleasing. It's totally idiot proof if you can cut fruit and bake pre-made cookie dough.

Surely someone has something more imaginative to offer. Many of these sound boring to me ...brownies? Seriously? A 5 year old can make brownies. What about key lime pie or something like that?

LOL If it is more than adding eggs to a box bought at the store, people will tell you it tooooooo hard.

How is key lime pie more interesting than flourless chocolate cake or raspberry orange trifle? Geez.
