Thank god the republicans in congress fought to preserve income tax cuts for those making 250-450k rather than extend the payroll tax holiday. (Sarcasm)

Bitching about having to pay payroll taxes once again is like waking up on December 26 (and 27 and 28 etc.) and bitching because Santa didn't come AGAIN.

Your paycheck isn't "increasing" it is "returning to what it would have been if Obama hadn't given you a tax holiday."

And by the way, if you're on this forum, you can afford it.

If you earn enough to stop paying in to SS before the ned of the year, you are rich.

To add to this - unless you started working in the last two years, you saw the jump in income you got. The holiday was never intended to be permanent, so bitching about it is like complainig that the sun is going rise - again! - tomorrow.

BTW, I am "self-employed," so I did NOT benefit from the payroll tax holiday for the past two years. I paid BOTH the employee portion and the employer portion, while you paid nothing. Glad to see everyone is back to pulling their own weight again.

I posted this article today on FB - I was just trying to be helpful. http://www.thebudgetdiet.com/cut-your-spending-by-400-a-month

Seriously, there are ways to cut your budget, but people prefer to bitch and whine. I need to practice what I preach on the budget cutting side (as in buckle down and actually do some of the stuff in this article), but I'm not going to sit here and feel sorry for myself when I know that this is just the way it is. I prefer people not go hungry or get sick just so I can eat out more than I should. It really is a very simple change in perspective.

I recommend trying to work a little harder and getting a raise or starting a side business to generate savings.

Counting on the continuation of a tax holiday for your savings is a poor decision.

Oh, shut up. It's hard enough to get a decent paying job right now much less a raise or start a business.

Why is it hard to get a decent job right now?

My husband freaked out when he saw his paycheck because he compared it to a pay period where his taxes were lower, and he calcuated we'd be paying $2,000 a month.

After that scare, a couple hundred extra doesn't seem so bad

I haven't looked at mine to compare. Between the rise in FICA (yes I get it was a break before), and health care, I'm pretty sure my raise for being "above average" is wiped out. Actually, I'll be happy if I break even.

this is pretty much what I said to a friend...only in nicer terms. She told me "I'm just gonna keep complaining" Her choice - to be whiney. *facepalm*

We are two income home -- yes, it did. My salary is 72k. If you are really so concerned, you more than welcome to reverse engineer the whole thing and figure out the second income.

From the information provided $72,000 * 2% = $1,440. $1,440 / 12 months = an additional $120 FICA tax per month. There may be other deductions in your check that changed from prior.

$70 and that was my raise after taxes per pay check this year. AWESOME.

DH is self employed so he is screwed in general.

I'm a single parent making 68,000/year. Between my health insurance premium going up $50 and this increase of $112.50 i'll be taking home significantly less. It ate up all of my raise and then some.

Thank you for pointing out the failure of my "savings plan". Will start thinking about starting that side business. Any suggestions since you seem so wise?
