Funny that this thread was resurrected as I happened to cut through byeforde today and noticed that the majority of cars parked in driveways on Dunnell (at 11am) had bumper stickers from private high schools (which supports the theory that lots of kids in that hood go to private, not public, schools).

We moved to Byeford 2 years ago. We are not involved in the HR Church community and are liberal, yet we are very happy. I think you can find friends that have similar interests wherever you live. Our kids go to Rosemary Hills and we have met some great families through the school. We also have met some great families in the neighborhood. There seems to be a new generation of families moving here that are not associated with the church or ultra conservative.

The only negative for us has been, like most of Montgomery County Public schools, Rosemary Hills is over crowded and the facilities seem out of date. I have been told there is a renovation plan in place. I hope that is true.

Byeford has great homes in a great location. Beach drive trail is awesome. Being near the beltway is great. We are able to travel to DC and Bethesda very quickly. I would not let a couple of over aggressive people scare anyone away from living here. We are doing just fine and are very happy.

Agreed with original poster on all counts. Moved here 6 years ago and still trying to integrate into CCV/HR community. You could wear a huge button that says native washingtonian, raised catholic, catholic college etc. and if you didn't grow up here or are some legacy family people still will not acknowledge you....often after having had conversations with them. Cliquish...you definitely have to go out of your way to befriend folks. Homogenous. Zero diversity. I would try rock creek hills.

I went to hr and was a bit of an outcast for not marching in the right to life march each year. Every year all the girls would get yanked out of school to participate in the march with their moms, and I was the only girl in class that day. Needless to say, my family was one of the few liberal ones. Outsiders with no links to hr, the parish, or the neighborhood can say what they like, but the posters with experience are speaking the truth.

I feel like he would not fit in so we stayed away. Not sure about how great it is academically either but it was mostly the fact that I was told the families at HR stick together and shun new people who are even the slightest bit different. A friend who sends her kids there says she knows people shun her because of her Obama sticker. Also not sure about the religious message and do I want my kid spending time on that and not academics, athletics or even play time instead.

So typical of Montgomery County. She saw five times as many Romney signs and it "scared her". What garbage.
