You won't know until it happens. My brother got sick after the twilight sedation and was totally loopy (could not stand up without falling follow the plot of a Simpsons episode for hours after) and I was afraid of it after watching him. Come to find out, my experience was totally different. I remember everything going fuzzy, then coming to in the car on the way home and asking my mother if it was over yet. Totally clear-headed after that point, motor skills and balance intact, not a hint of nausea. I thought it was great--I'm sure the procedure itself was unpleasant but I don't remember a darned thing.

OP it depends on what you mean by anesthesia. Is it general anesthesia? This would be less common these days for more simple dental procedures. Many people get drugs like Versed which is the twilight sleep-type experience people are referring to. It's a sedative that never actually puts you to sleep, you're awake the whole time, but you're totally relaxed and compliant and it has a memory loss effect, which is why there is an experience of "waking up" as the meds wear off, but different from waking up from general anesthesia

You'll do great, OP. I had my wisdom teeth removed 20+ years ago and they used a gas anesthesia. It was quick and easy, but I did throw up when I woke up. Sounds like the procedure has advanced since then and the IV drip is even better. Good luck!

I remember the cool feeling crawling up my arm, then waking up in another room. I was very confused as to how I walked to the other room, but apparently I did. Make sure you go on an empty stomach and ask for some anti-nausea meds. I got sick from the pain meds and just had to do larger amounts of advil, so something else to think about.

Also, when you're in the car on the way home you just feel very sleepy and out of it. I don't remember most of the ride home but after a couple hours I was more alert. There was no "high" involved- just grogginess.

Please tell your doctor you throw up very easily- even if this is a lie. They will give you antiemetic tablets and iv zofran during the procedure and you will not wake up feeling nauseous. I do not remember falling asleep- only feeling very relaxed because they gave me Valium (which I asked for) and laughing gas. It felt like 30 seconds had passed when I woke up and I feel relief that everything was done. I do remember a few moments from the surgery- at one point the doctor said that this may be a little uncomfortable but another second passed and I fell back asleep not caring whatsoever. Please go for getting the anesthesia because it will make this whole thing a breeze. I, too, was extremely nervous about it and what I might say waking up but I was honestly too sleepy to say anything. They gave me a blanket and I just layed there silently until I came to. I would say this procedure has been the easiest I've ever had. And I have had countless fillings, a root canal, caps, and teeth pulled. Don't worry. Ask for zofran IV, an anti anxiety, and go to sleep. It'll be great.

Hi i am going to be going through this on Friday only for all of my teeth and was told that it might take around 3-4 hrs and was wondering what is the anesthesia high like? I need a comparison cuz I'm a bit eh about what it might be like and well my sense of humor sometimes tends to be a bit dark. Will i just babble or can i actually control some of what i say?

There's no reason to be put under for wisdom teeth removal if you don't want to. I'm also scared and opted not to. I had local + laughing gas. Yeah, the majority choose to be knocked out but you don't have to be. Any good dentist can do it with you awake.

Big difference between local anesthesia and general anesthesia. Talk to your oral surgeon about your options. I just had my wisdom teeth removed under local. It meant I was awake enough during the procedure to control how far they opened my jaw (a big help- since jaw strain was the most painful part post op) I listened to music on my headphones so I didn't have to hear the procedure.

I had this and I was as terrified as hell that I'd give away "big secrets" or act weird and crazy.

I went under for wisdom teeth through an iv. I was nervous and nearly in tears before hand, but they just stuck it in my arm and said "You'll feel a bit drowsy for the next thirty seconds before you fall asleep" and I said okay and it seemed like seconds later that the doctors said "You're all done". Like I said, I was super nervous about getting the whole thing done, but I was aware of what I was saying and what was going on. The best thing I can compare it to is being sleepy/groggy. You're sort of in this tired haze, but you know what's going on and you know what you're saying. You're tired and it sort of feels like you woke up from a long nap i the middle of the day. Even though you don't feel as 100% alert as normal, you can still move and think normally and are aware of what's going on.. Honestly, once you wake up you'll probably just want to go back to sleep, and by the time you take that nap after waking up from the iv, the medicine will ware off.

I'm one of those people who reacts horribly to anesthesia. Neon vomit isn't a lot of fun. Even twilight anesthesia for endoscopy really throws me for a loop and I have trouble recovering from it. I demand vast quantities of anti-nausea meds any time anesthesia is used.

I wads worried as well. Here was my experience, they put in the IV, they start the anesthesia, told me to count backwards from 100, I counted 100, 99, 98 , 97, and then I woke up in a different room with my teeth removed. No weird dreams, no side effects. All in all, it was a great experience.
