Can you tell me what "Inside sales" means?
It can be phone sales (and it was for me in the beginning) but I now have an account that I have been working for the last 10 years and have all repeat customers and know my agencies inside and out. When I leave a company, my customers come with me. Inside meaning I very very rarely have to take appointments at the customer site. I do have an outside rep that I support and have worked with for years and I basically do his bitch work, but get paid off of his deals as well. He makes triple what I make, but has a ton more stress. I work from home and quite honestly probably only work 30 hours a week, except in July-September. I also have two junior ISRs under me to hit the phones all day and are expected to set appointments.
Granted I am very seasoned and at the higher end of the comp scale, but even average ISRs are making around 80K. I am also very technical, I've been in IT for the last 15 years (since I was 20), selling technology so all of this now comes very easy for me. I probably could just as easily get some more technical certifications and move into sales engineering, but those guys travel like crazy and make the same amount as I do. They have a more prestigious title, but I get to see my kids on and off the bus each day!
