Very common when the day care does not have its own playground. Where are you from?
Lots of day cares do. Especially downtown. That is why I felt most comfortable in one that had their own playground. The kids spend hours outside each day and it is a huge liability. Although much lower for teachers who care, I guess.

Agree - our suburban daycare never takes the under-3 kids off "campus" and the older ones only for field trips.

I go to the Livingston Park frequently and I have only seen one day care regularly go there. They do not wear t-shirts. They are always counting kids at the end and are sometimes unsure of how many were there at the start of the day.

How do you know that these were day care worker? I believe the FCC employees wear t shirts. Although the FCC does have a male teacher whom I've seen.

Why didn't your nanny call the police when they noticed an unsupervised child. Please have your caregiver call the police if they ever notice an unsupervised child and not just go home.

OP please ignore the previous asshole. If you hear anything more about this please let us know. I'm really glad the child is ok and the father knows what happened. I'm not sure why the teachers thought 20 minutes was ok. It's the fact they lost the child at all. I mean it doesn't get any worse than this situation IMO. Thanks for posting again.

OP here. I'll ask my nanny for a better description tonight, but she told me a small boy, no shoes or socks, and very runny nose. What I know is consistent with what the other poster wrote whose nanny said the same thing. I don't know if the boy was 2 -- or maybe an older 1, but she said he was standing for a while holding the gate. If it's not FCC, that's great -- but then I wonder what group it was because that is the natural suspect for that park at that time. Also, if the 2's did get back at about 5:00, the timing seems about right. My nanny said no one came from the daycare until at least about an hour later (from 4:30), so it is possible that they mis-counted and did not realize the mis-count until at least a half an hour later -- possibly when the dad came to pick up? Anyway, please let us know if anyone knows for sure what daycare this is.

Ok, time out. I am an FCC parent and was at the center yesterday when the children in the 2s class returned to the center. First of all, they arrived back at the center just before 5, so the timing does not connect for this abandoned child to have been part of that group. Second, when that class returned to the center I actually heard the teacher calmly count how many children there were. There was no "crap we are missing a kid!" and rushing back to the park. The class just proceeded into the next planned activity.
I also can't believe that they would have let a child wander around the park without shoes and socks on.

I would imagine that the father may have gone to pick up the child and the child was not there. At that point in time all HE!! broke lose and the daycare teacher ran to the park. Once they found the child, the called the school from the park and the dad came.
I believe there are requirements for the school on what they need to report. From reading threads from the JCC last year and Spring Valley Montessori a few years ago, there are specific protocol that needs to be followed.
