I believe the studies suggest that nonresidents get hit here the most. As with all city govts, DC govt looks for ways to raise money from nonresidents. Hotel taxes, etc. Regardless, the DC fines are excessive, needless to say.

Kind of like those excessive fees to enter the Smithsonians. I know, I know, federal vs. oppressed non-voting district.

OP should write the district's valued congressional delegation.

If you got a speeding ticket in VA you would pay the same amount. So clearly the fine is in proportion to the offense.

You are just angry that you can't spot a camera like you can spot a police car. I'm not sure that qualifies as a good excuse for a lower fine.
