I used to think it was necessary to wash out the box once in a while, as some other pps mentioned, however I no longer do and it doesn't seem to make any difference in smell containment. I scoop every other day and change the litter out completely when it no longer clumps, usually a week to 10 days.

We scoop every day, sometimes twice a day. I completely empty all litter and scrub the box with hot water/cleaner once per week, then refill with new clean litter.

I did the same as above when I had a cat.
