We love Beverly Farms. There are a lot of families that attend Beverly Farms and then go elsewhere for their religious education. They make special arrangements on holidays that some children do not celebrate. It all seems to work.

PP seems to frequent several of these forums and does not seem to have had a positive experience and seems to share this with vigor. I wonder why?

Sorry, my kids are doing well. I typed incorrectly. As I said further in my email, they are doing very well. I liked the school. I liked the staff. I liked the administration. My children had a good experience. So, did I. It is a good school.

I am finding that she has a deeper understanding in math and loves to read. Her teachers have been great with working with small groups of children and sometimes the classroom has another teacher of support teacher in the room to work with different kids.

I'm surprised to read about the parent that is so dissatisfied. This has not been my experience at all. It's a great school, with great kids, teachers, administration, and families. I'ver never heard anything bad from people that send their kids there. You may want to visit and form your own opinion. I think you will find a great school.

If you think Beverly Farms is so great, then why do you suppose your 2 kids at Hoover are not doing extremely well? My two kids had the same experience when they went to Hoover. They said kids from Wayside and Potomac had more background in Social Studies and Science because of what they were taught at their schools as compared to Beverly Farms. Many kids from Beverly Farms also were pulled back and had to repeat a year of Math because they were not at the level Beverly Farms indicated they were.

Beverly Farms is a great school. I have several children there now and have no complaints. I volunteer on a regular basis and feel welcome each time. The staff and administration have always been available to answer any of my questions.

And beyond that, we had heard great things about Herbert Hoover MS which I see now the great principal that they've had there is leaving. Part of the reason we're moving to that location is the schools. I feel sick to my stomach right now.

I think it's too early to worry. In my experience, if reality and DCUM were a Venn diagram, the area of overlap would be pretty small.

I agree that after reading this thread, I would be worried and seeking more information. I wouldn't put too much stock in the opinion of someone who uses STFU in conversation. Seems like an awfully combative person. I agree with the Venn diagram PP's point to take anything on DCUM with a grain of salt/open mind.

PP -

Do you have a child at Beverly Farms? If not, how can you shed light on what is and what is not going on there? I think comments from people who have no experience at the school are the ones that are worthless.

Having kids go from K-5 at Beverly Farms:

1) There is only 1 teacher left that my oldest had. The rest have transferred to other schools or retired. Transfers hit high gear when the current principal came into the school. I have lost count of the number of Assistant Principals. One in particular, didn't even stay the whole year.

2) Most of the teachers that replaced the ones that left have less than 3 yrs. of teaching experience in MCPS.

3) Of the general education teachers, only one is male.

4) The average number of years of teaching experience my kids teachers have had is probably under 5 years.

I've been a parent at BF for several years and the PP should be concerned. The PP regarding the Venn diagram - how can you make a statement of how bad BF really is without experiencing it? If you don't know what you are talking about, the STFU.

I wasn't making a statement about how bad BFES is or isn't. I was making a statement about the PP worrying about something (anything!) based solely on what the PP read on DCUM.

Ok, I'm the PP who is just moving to the neighborhood. PP who says I should be concerned, are you the one who said you received no feedback from your child's teacher? Because that's been my experience at our current ES. Unless I reached out to her with specific questions, i heard NOTHING from her regarding my DD's work. So that honestly doesn't scare me b/c now I know to be more vocal. But it's the other stuff I'm hearing here about the young and inexperienced teacher pop that's making me very nervous.
