You guys should give it a rest too. Finances are a big reason why many people don't go private. We "could" afford it and are in the same income bracket as many families in private schools but 60K a year for 2 kids would mean downsizing, saving less for retirement, saving less for college, and taking fewer vacation. If someone came along and said hey I'll give you a voucher for 80%-90% of the cost of private school, the majority of our school would stampede.

I hate to break this to you, but there are many, many smart and hard-working kids in the public schools. You sound like one of those people who think your kids' peers would be non-English speakers (some of the hardest workers, BTW), skateboarding slackers and drug dealers. I'm also stumped at the certainty of your opposition to something you never experienced and don't appear to know much about. Stay in your private school, we don't want you.

OP, try not to feel too sorry for my kids, one of whom went from public to a top ivy (where we're full pay, so finances aren't the issue), the other of whom is doing great in a great public school.

I hate 2.0 but do not mind mixed abilities in class. This actually works well in Montessori environments BUT the materials, curriculum and philosophy is all built around encouraging self pacing and encouraging student interest in academics. Everything is designed around letting the individual student reach their potential.

The MCPS teaching is style locked in the older traditional model that the teacher lectures to everyone, everyone does the same work, and independent work time is more like study hall. Enrichment in 2.0 is not differentiation its kids some getting worksheets or an extra activity. They aren't going "deeper" at all. Its BS and a big disaster. MCPS could care less about individual student potential. Their goal is group proficiency. They do not care about your child as long as they hit the bar that MCPS ranks itself on.

You hate 2.0 but you don't have personal experience with it? Could you please explain?

I'm the OP on the private forum with kids in private. Based on responses on that forum I agree with you. I still hate 2.0 and am glad my kids are in private though. I found out today our school is losing one kid in my DC's class to public MCPS but the reason might be financial. The family bought an absolutely huge house.
