Very solid , a good safety school for those who can't get into Davidson or W&L. Comparable to Smith, Bates, Colby or Macalester.

Also, Colgate has a much prettier campus than Hamilton College

I graduated in 1994 and would say almost the exact same things as PP.

I would have graduated in the class of 1994 if I had gotten in! . That said, I loved the campus when I visited. I went to Bucknell instead and was very happy there.

Me again - Bucknell was my second choice! But I got into Colgate early so I withdrew the application.

Was that ED to Colgate?

Yes.

Yes. But best known in New York, may require more description in DC, and especially out west.

Hum, I'm from Florida and we knew of Colgate when I was in college.

Visited and it was too remote for my son, ditto Hamilton. There is nothing pretty much around there but a bunch of washed up towns, dont agree though that its not prestigious..it actually is, no its not "Yale prestigious" but is very much a respected school.

Did it cause any tension that you were at a more prestigious Ivy school?

No. He wanted to go to a small liberal arts college. I wanted to study engineering, so that would have been a poor choice for me.

It seemed like a nice school, I was there relatively often. The Greek life was a bigger part of campus life than I would have wanted, but people were generally very nice. I know that my boyfriend enjoyed the academics, and he got a good job upon graduation.

Colgate '94 grad here, Colgate is more competitive than BU and Syracuse and they are not comparable to Colgate because they are large and urban. Most of the people there from what I recall had also applied to Amherst, Williams, Dartmouth etc. And, for a lot of people like myself, it was their first choice.

Cornell has the same suicide rate as other schools - people just take their lives in a dramatic way there so it gets more publicity.

Back in the day, Colgate was considered a safety school for people who couldn't get into top tier liberal arts schools. Sort of the equivalent of Syracuse and BU.
