I basically posted a note on my wall stating that I am pro-gay marriage rights, and it is very hurtful for me and some of my close friends to continue seeing updates from other acquaintances debating gay rights and denouncing marriage equality. So I let folks know that if they felt uncomfortable with that, they could unfriend me; otherwise, if the posts continued I'd unfriend them on FB.

Yeah, I have started hiding my status from some people who I know seriously disagree with me politically because I don't want to offend them.
Unfortunately a passion for politics is part of who I am. I don't post all day long. I limit myself (and sometimes it is very hard) to one post on politics a day, at most.
Just FYI, if you ever post something like asking for restaurant recommendations or announcing your new baby, don't be surprised if you don't get a lot of responses. I think it's safe to assume that a large percentage of your FB friends have blocked your posts by this point.

This is just so childish.
So OP you have specifically asked this former friend via email or phone to specifically hang out and she has flat out ignores you?
OP here - yes, I'm flat out ignored despite multiple emails and a couple of calls. I agree, it's childish and not a situation I'm particularly happy with, but I'm not going to pursue the friendship any longer. That said, it still hurts to be cut off. I didn't realize I could hide posts and will look into that.
