Tipping is a courtesy, not a requirement. If a driver asks for a tip, he doesn't deserve one. On the other hand, if he's generally polite and brings your groceries to your door (or asks where you'd like them), then he definitely deserves at least a few bucks.

Next time he fishes for a tip look him dead in the eye snd say fuck you pay me!

So you're saying that the guy making $19,000 a year is doing better financially than you? If things are that tight for you, shouldn't you be doing your own grocery shopping so that you can save the extra money that you now spend on the delivery fee (although apparently not on a tip as well)?

The cheapskates on this board, most of whom probably make somewhere in the $250K+ ballpark, are astounding. I'm not rich, yet somehow I manage to give my peapod delivery guy a $10 tip after he hauls my $200 worth of (heavy) groceries into my house and brings it into the kitchen.

A hefty delivery charge? You send them a list and they bring the groceries to your house. Could you do all they do in an hour? is your time worth more than the hefty (what -- $10?) delivery charge? If your time is worth less than that, get in your car, use some gas, pick out your groceries, stand in line to check out for 20 minutes, schlep groceries to car, drive home, use gas, pray for no rain, schlep groceries into kitchen. Then start to put groceries away.

I've always tipped the Peapod people. They always been wonderful and put the bags on the counter exactly where I've asked. I am happy with their service, so I tip them.

I *dont* get it. You are paying for the service, that is a delivery. I would give a few dollars, but not $5.

Peapod showed up during one of the horrendous snowstorms. We were literally snowed in. I had ordered before the storm was predicted, he made it. You are darn straight he got a very generous tip!

PP, don't be so cheap. If you can afford Peapod, you can afford a tip. For crying out loud.

My peapod guy said they dont want people to right the tips in on the receipt and want cash. They expect a tip

Yeah. Right now I have some change and a few coupons in my purse and I'm about to get on Metro using my SmartTrip card. I don't use Peapod because its a luxury, I use it because it save me time/money. But if I had to tip the guy $5 for walking my groceries from his truck to my kitchen, I probably need to find an alternative.
