In recent decades Republicans have been the ones to overspend. It's just a FACT. And Clinton was an A+ steward of the U.S. economy. Look at the FACTS, GOPers.

Clearly they do not fear debt all that much. They are already shrieking over the automatic cuts that will happen if there is no negotiated deal. Frankly I think the only adult thing done on the budget was to create a plan where the absence of compromise created grim consequences on both sides of the political agenda. But I think it is interesting that the right fears the result more than the left, now that doomsday is approaching.
