Here is another point of view....Longfellow is AMAZING....I think competition is a good thing....it drives and focuses students.....work hard and you will be rewarded.

There's no specific IB prep at Kilmer like the IB Middle Years Program at Hughes or Glasgow. Not sure it would make sense there, since Kilmer splits between Marshall and Madison. I've never understood why FCPS couldn't align the MS/HS boundaries so that everyone at Kilmer was zoned for Marshall, and everyone at Thoreau was zoned for Madison, but it apparently that might lead to some kids who live in the Town of Vienna and attend Kilmer getting reassigned to Marshall. Even though all the schools are county schools, and Madison isn't actually in the Town of Vienna, people in the Town think of Madison as the "Town school" and some wouldn't be happy if they were moved. But if Kilmer's boundaries were the same as Marshall's, it would make more sense to have IB MYP there.

There aren't any kids zoned for Longfellow and Marshall. You could pupil place to Marshall for IB if you are zoned for McLean or Langley, just as Marshall kids can pupil place to McLean and Madison for AP. You are correct that Marshall kids come from Kilmer and Thoreau.

The confusion may be that some Longfellow kids come from elementary schools that are in the Marshall "pyramid" like Lemon Road and Westgate, but those kids aren't "zoned" for Marshall.

There are a few neighborhoods that are "grandfathered" and allowed to go to Longfellow, but are zoned for Marshall.

I wasn't aware of that. Could you provide an example? Is it a neighborhood of single-family homes or apartments near Tysons?

The ones I know, live south of Rte 7, just beyond Wolftrap. However, any Mclean zoned student can go to Marshall as is it the IB option HS for the McLean pyrimid. There are small idiosycrasies in the dividing lines between Longfellow/ Kilmer and McLean/Marshall.

I meant to add. Marshall students can also attend McLean, as it is their AP school.

It is only Churchill AAP students that go to Longfellow and then to Langley. Churchill GE goes to Cooper. There are also Churchill AAP students from Kent Gardens that go to Longfellow and but they go to McLean.

A new e-letter came out today and the top stories were a pizza fundraiser, a vision and hearing screening event, and an annual charity fair. It apparently is not Math/Science Olympiad season.
