This thread is ridiculous. Do you know how many families wish they could have their child in Stoddert? Further, its kindergarten! I'm sure your snowflake will be just fine.

Actually, DC's high SES white families do have the most academically advanced kids in the country, according to NAEP, the National Assessment of Academic Progress.

And the high SES kids in the US are the highest academically in the world.

We live in the Stoddert district, and the parent community is amazing. We're sending our kid to a religiously affiliated school, but have angst over it bc Stoddert is really cool.

Our kid went to another NW elementary which is v. highly rated (test scores) and I wished we were zoned for Stoddert (we lived fairly close to both). Looked like a fun community, and their academics seemed solid. Have you researched and visited the school?

Stoddert and Eaton are gems in NW. Relax. Stoddert is a great school. Good luck.

Good for you. I think you'll find other parents with the same concerns about needs for an advanced child. They won't fall behind though because presumably whatever you've given your child thus far at home is still present. And the teachers seem open to parental involvement and ideas. There are many gifted students at Stoddert so teachers are used to differentiating as much as they can. Is it Harvard? No. But the warm community is worth more than gold and the academics are good. Go for it!

OP here, I am laughing a little at myself to be honest. My post does sound a little high strung. Thanks for all the positive feedback on the school. Now that I have accepted that my child will be Stoddart, we are looking forward to having a good year. As any mothers, I am proud of my DC and have been told by his pre school teachers that he is very advanced. I don't want his learning curve to fall and the school seems to have more resources for kids that are falling behind. No mention of any resources for kids who are ahead. But in the end, I just want him to ease into school and just have a good year. I do need to chill a little!

Yes, you will grow a bit too, as pp said. It's hard to let your babies start school, so have yourself a good cry and then take yourself out for lunch!!
