Buy a middle-sized $2-5K set and put the rest of the money towards college.

I don't think people will judge. She's got five kids. Five kids who will use it. If she had just one, that would be different.

We bought a decent-sized one at Lowe's for about $1200 and assembled ourselves. I can't fathom spending $14k, especially when you don't consider yourself "rich".

OMFG...who buys this shit?

Besides taking up too much space and knowing that it will all just be trash in a few years, I'd constantly worry about someone falling (or trying to jump) off. Out of 5 kids, I can almost guarantee you will get at least one broken bone as a result of a playset so big. Aside from the safety issues, the younger kids won't be able to play on something that big for a couple of years and the older kids will grow out of it very fast. In just a few years, you'll have to pay someone to dismantle the thing and haul it away. I honestly think you'd get just as much use out of a smaller playset that is a fraction of the cost.

+1

Wondering if that thing is going to look ridiculous in your yard? I have seen similar sized ones in neighborhood HOA open spaces.

Dear God, OP

I hope you live on at least 3 acres. If that monstrosity were next to me, it would dwarf my house and decrease value!

I have also looked at Rainbow, Cedarworks, and playnation but like woodplay the best. The playset is huge with two seven foot decks, and another smaller set attached. It has a playhouse, crawl tunnel, bridge, spiral slide, 14 ft slide, 10 ft slide, and big spiral slide. I can afford the money but I am not rich. I am supposed to go pay a deposit today but I feel really bad about the price. I have five kids age ranges from 17 Months to nine years olds so I know I would get lots of use. I have been looking for about a year and this one has everything and is perfect for the kids of diffrent ages. It was a custome design so I can not find an exact one but one of the sets looks exactly l it looks as nice and similar to this

http://www.rainbowplay.com/index.php/swingsets/package/27b-original-king-kong-castle-supersized-package-v-grand-slam/

Then there is a bridge and crawl tunnel connecting it to another set that looks kind of like this

http://www.rainbowplay.com/index.php/swingsets/package/43a-original-king-kong-clubhouse-package-ii-with-dual-lower-level-playhouse/

The only diffrence is the second pic I will only have one 10" slide off the smaller deck and the playhouse is om the top bottoms are open. What I want to know is for those pf you that spend $8000 or more on a playset do you have any regrets? Do you feel you are getting your moneys worth out of it?

I haven't read all of these posts but all I can say is.... $14,500 for a PLAYSET?

Yes, I would regret it every day that I had to look at it for the next 10 years. Tell your kids to go to the park.

I would regret it every time I looked at it. It really is a monstrosity.

To the poster who says teenagers might like to rediscover it... It looks like it would be a good hangout/encouragement for smoking weed. The stoners in my high school loved these kind of things.

Think about liability with such an extreme play set, I feel like it is so tall if a kid fell it would be bad. Once a kid is 7-8 I feel like they lose interest in the playset. I think you would get lots of use out of it but I also think you would get equal amount of use out of something smaller. Or try second hand:

Totally agree. I'd be looking on craislist or some such place for a nice used one!

Our kids love our custom set. Their friends love coming by to play on it.

OP, good on you for tending to your childs needs. I see way too many big families with insufficient playthings for them. At least you are making the effort. As long as you are tending to your youngest and not "leaving them out there", why not? You know your kids and if they will use it - no one else does.

Our four kids never play in our backyard...too buggy, and most kids prefer to play out front with neighbors or head to the park/playground. And I know a few families who had to pay big money to have their play sets dismantled and hauled off a handful of years after the novelty wore off and the sets began to show wear and tear. Having said that, if you have tons of cash, why not go for it? Personally, I would rather use that money on a few nice vacations.

Just looked at the pictures, OP. I'm 45 and I'd like to play on your playset!

In case you haven't thought of it, you may need to check with your local authorities to see if you need any special permit for something that tall. Also maybe feel out your neighbors for their thoughts if it might obscure their view, etc.

Pp here. I just saw the picture. Omg in my opinion that thing is ugly. My $1500 set is much nicer looking. That looks like a circus. I would never put that in my yard...
