For one thing, you fail to note that the targeting of Muslims is part of a larger attempt in Western Europe to undermine religious and cultural freedoms of non-Christian, non-white Europeans. So whether it's Jews, Muslims, North Africans, there are various attempts to target religious practices as a means to "root out" cultural practices of those who are deemed "other." Well, to be accurate, it was a pro-circumcision poster who likened the anti-circumcision folks to the anti-vaccination folks.

1) Comparing removal of the foreskin to complete removal of the labia and in some cases the sewing up and fusing of the vaginal opening is absurd - they are totally different procedures with entirely different health implications.

2) Male circumcision has health benefits (lower risk of HIV, for one thing) and does not limit male's ability to enjoy sexual intercourse. In contrast, the very reason for female circumcision is to limit female enjoyment of sex and to ensure "cleanliness" of genitalia. Female circumcision also places women at a greater risk for HIV and for severe complications during childbirth. The implications are far more severe than male circumcision and it's shocking that this distinction is being trivialized.

3) The law was passed as a means to target Jews and Muslims who do practice cirucmcision as part of their religious traditions. It's very reminicent of the French law banning headscarves in that it is intended to undermine religious and cultural practices. This law smacks of fascism and is part of an increasing wave of anti semetic / anti - ethnic stirrings in Western Europe.
