I'm guessing my in-laws think this about me too but they've never expressed it so maybe I'm just projecting.

The think I am snotty, they don't like that I drink, they don't like that I'm not Jewish, and they particularly don't like that their passive aggressive guilt trips have no effect on me. I'm going out to visit them in August for a week with my hubby and the kids. Joy.

C'mon, people, what do you really do that annoys your ILs?

I get bugged by my FIL walking around in his underwear.

They hate that I am perfect and have no faults.

That I'm overweight.

That I always want something 'more'. I'm actually very low maintenance but their example of this is I wanted more than one child and when I had the second child I then wanted a double stroller... practical stuff.

That I don't appreciate/thank DH enough. I'm actually the family breadwinner but if I bought myself a sweater MIL would comment on how nice her son is for letting me have nice things and asks if I thanked him.

That I didn't feel comfortable announcing my pregnancy to the whole extended family right after the positive pregnancy test. Next time we won't even share with MIL and FIL since I was pressured into sharing before I was ready.

That I'm not Catholic.

That I'm pro-choice.

That I don't recognize that MIL is the ultimate expert on parenting.

Ils hate everything about me. God forbid anyone be different! Not allowed!

We get along pretty well but they definitely don't like that:

1) I am not Catholic or Christian (they blame me for their son dropping his Catholicism but it was long gone before we met)

2) Our children are not baptized

3) I work part time instead of staying home full time

4) Our progressive values

5) We would like to live abroad with our children for a stretch of time (both DH and I work in international development and lived overseas together before kids - somehow I get blamed in discussions about going back overseas but it is more my DH's preference)

6) I am not Catholic or Christian (oh wait, did I say that already?)

These are the issues my own family has with me, too. I'm uptight because I say things like, "Please don't use negative names for DC, he is too little to understand that you're joking."

Same.

That I like "highly spiced food"...this means anything with any flavor other than extra salt.

My FIL has never tasted pizza, hamburgers, burritos, garlic or any "ethnic" food. He's old school british, from up north.
Sweet guy though.

They get upset when I go shopping when they say they already have food in the house - yep, its fish sticks on white bread (w/extra butter) for dinner for 4 adults! Yum!

These are the issues my own family has with me, too. I'm uptight because I say things like, "Please don't use negative names for DC, he is too little to understand that you're joking."

I'm white. Nearly refused to meet me based on that, and now haven't spoken to us in 9 years.

That I stole her baby boy away from her.

Quite possibly she dislikes that I work, even though she herself aways did.

That I'm a vegetarian and raising my children that way as well.

That I'm not white.
