No, but it pushes the shirt out making it easier to rub against the counter top. I know this because my dad has a very rotund belly and my mom was always complaining about the holes in his t shirts around his belly button.

Same problem here. Definitely the edge of the jeans near the snap poking through/rubbing holes into my shirts. 
I now wear tanks underneath all my t-shirts, and it's taken care of the problem. Very annoying to have to wear an extra layer all the time. (I found very thin, silky tanks in the underwear section at Target -- less heavy than other tanks, but still annoying!)

Bra straps? Like the little adjusters (although I don't know why they'd be in front) or some lace.
Basically, clothes are made cheap as hell nowadays. Excellent. That book "Overdressed: The High..." was right.
sorry maybe i should have mentioned that i'm a 165lb man... no boobs, no bra, no purse straps...

Ahhh! Thankfully, I'm also not alone! Try J.Crew's Perfect Fit tees. So far, no holes no matter what - and I have granite and/or polished concrete/gravel counters, jeans that act up, an average chest-size and I'm a big girl (size 16). But even when I was thinner, this would happen.
Also consider carrying bags, purses, kids, and the details and hardware on their clothes and shoes, etc. I never had tee holes happen before kids.

It's because your shirt rubs against tw edge of where the jeans button, doesn't matter what you lean against.

This started happening to me only after my son was born. I finally figured out it was from my shirt rubbing between my jeans button and the changing table/crib--as evidenced by the rub marks on those two pieces of furniture. And, it stopped after he moved out of the crib and we started changing him on the floor. I don't get that close for that long to my kitchen countertops.
Dreading the start of this again when our baby girl arrives in a few months...

I bought my husband a brand new t-shirt and I have washed it once in a delicate wash and already there are two wee small wholes around the bellybutton area i have tried everything I just moved into a brand new house so I thought it was moth balls in the old house but it's still happening and it doesn't happen to any of my friends clothes. Could be the detergent???? HELP

i think it's from moths eating when they are hung up on the line- they need to be shook out after you take them off the line and don't leave them on the line over night, they aren't the big moths its the small garden moths and if you don't shake your clothes out after then they will continue to eat the tops. It's the way they are hung up they just nest in the bottom part of your top

I never post replys to things. However, I have had so many Tshirts ruined because of this issue. It doesn't matter if they are thin, thick, cheap or expensive. I think that it happens because of the button on jeans. I wear jeans all the time. The jeans styles these days do not generally sit at the waist but at least slightly below putting the button in a "prominant" spot. The suggestion of wearing a camisole under tshirts will help, but this is not always practical. I take duct tape and tear a peice about 2-3" long and place it on the inside of the jeans and then zip up and button and bring it over the button. This totally solves the problem. However, you can see the duct tape through white T's AND it leaves a sticky residue behind. But, it's better than replacing tshirts after a single wearing. Why don't manufacturers address this problem?!!!

I've posted this before, but the holes are from your granite or other stone countertops. They get rough on the edges, and when you lean up against them and rub (I.e. while washing dishes), and the shirt is between your pants button or belt and the counter, tiny holes form. I have ruined countless shirts this way. I ruined zero shirts last year...when I lived in a home with butcher block counters. We moved into a new home with granite countertops five months ago, and if I don't remember to drape a towel between me and the counter, my shirt is full of holes by the end of the day. Argh.
