My DH & I really enjoy this show. Although I can't totally relate to all of it, there are definitely those moments where I can see glimpses of my dumb-ass 20-something self in some of the characters.

I like the writing. Like the moment when Hannah is talking to Adam about why he's never told her she's an alcoholic, and he says something like, "You never asked me anything except if I liked it this way or that way." She wants this guy to be her boyfriend, but she doesn't know anything about him. She's so totally self-absorbed. It's awesome.

And DH & I think Lena Dunham is cute. So whatever.

My DH and I love this show too, and I loved that scene referenced above. The dialogue is utterly brilliant. Re weight: This show seems to be somewhat of a Rorschach test. So what if she has some belly fat? I LOVE that she is wiling to show her body and isn't a waif. And I think she is cute. As much as there is an obesity crisis in this country, actresses today are way skinnier than they used to be. Most of the 20-something actresses today lack curves. And if they have breasts, they are usually fake.

And I say this as a "skinny/fit" woman.

I've watched one episode and it was meh. Maybe I expected too much b/c of the buzz? Maybe it's an acquired taste and you have to watch more than once? Actually, beyond the meh, it was somewhat perplexing. Who are these people? Did/do you really know any 20-somethings like this? Yes, of course, I remember the shock of leaving the college bubble and the struggles that ensued, but what I don't remember at all is the sense of entitlement. Moreover, my oldest son is a 2011 college grad and I don't see any of these characters among his friends. Of course, you can love a piece of entertainment even if you don't relate to the characters; in fact, that can make it all the more appealing as an escape, but Girls doesn't hold that appeal either. I mean I just can't imagine waiting in great anticipation every week to see the fate of Hannah, Marnie, Jessa and the other girl. Well, maybe Jessa b/c she's such a poseur and exploitative. Hmm . . . maybe I did know people like this.

I honestly think she's brilliant. She's clearly writing and dressing Hanna to expose her, literally and figuratively. Hanna is an open book; she's willing to give her body and her heart, she just has a hard time taking those things from others. She's like the opposite of a blank slate. And as for the weight issues, as Hanna said, there is nothing mean you can say about her that she hadn't said herself to herself probably in the last hour.

I love the show. A guy I'm dating is friends with Lena. He laughs while watching the show bc the characters are all people in their mutual circle.

I had a friend once with that body type and Hanna's personality. Hell, they even have the same hair cut and fizz. That friend had the hottest, sweetest boyfriend in the whole world.

I think the character of Hanna is supposed to dress poorly for her body shape too. It's difficult to buy off the rack for the small breasted boxy woman.

Ohmigod. She is very overweight. That is normal/average to you people? When I was in my mid-20s that was bordering on obese. Yep--this country is now full of fata**ses.

I gained 20lbs sophmore year in college and wasn't that blubbery (I was always very athletic). I worked my ass to lose it when I came home on Xmas break, couldn't even fit into my mother's jeans and had my older brother and sister make fun of me. Tough love is good sometimes. I am now in my 40s and weigh the same as I did when I lost that 20 lbs at 20. I adopted healthier eating habits and a healthier lifestyle. I still don't diet. I am not 'skinny', but fit.

Really---you see her arms in those tops and her midsection which has no waist...and makes those dresses stick way out. Did you see her jogging...all of that blubber shaking all over the frigging place and she couldn't do a block. That is not healthy people. If you are that size--you are overweight. Sorry to break the news to you.

My ass is white and pasty too. I am way to white to go tanning and I don't want a shit load of chemicals soaking into my skin so I can look tan. I don't care that my ass is white and I find it odd that you were so grossed out by hers that you had to turn off the show.

You know, I saw her on Colbert and though she appeared slightly more self-aware than Hanna, you could also clearly see Hanna in her. The interview left me wondering where the line actually was.
