Winner of most useful informative post award!!

I am an accountant and I less that 40 hours- nearer 37 and I earn just over $200k. ~$210k.

Thanks. I'm the pp you're quoting - I work for an accounting firm. There, now I've given more info than you have.

Yup, I'm a scientist at a non-profit (advanced degree) and making less than $60K. Pay sucks, work is interesting, schedule and flexibility are awesome (work from home 35hr/wk). I'll be looking for a job that pays me what I'm worth at some point, but right now with small kids this is the tradeoff I'm making to stay in the workforce. I'm 34.

I can't wait for the day when I bring home a real paycheck though...

I WFH and very rarely top 40hrs, except during busy season (august-september) During December-January, I'm hard pressed to find 20hrs of work to do.

Oh, and I'm 34. This is the "top" salary for my field. To make more, I'd have to transition to outside sales and I'm not willing to do that. Too much pressure.

Not all non-profits are charitable organizations. Some are large trade associations representing hundreds of thousands of members with a focus on lobbying, policy, and retirement/benefit plan administration. I work for one and executive level salaries are into the $200,000 range.

Fed economist, GS-14. 36 years old, 11 years at my agency. I make $115k. 40 hours/week, including one telework day.

I have B.A. and M.A. degrees in economics, but the M.A. wasn't a requirement.

DH is 45 and makes $90,000 working 40h/wk for the fed gov't. He has two masters degrees. I am 35, make about $60,000 working in the mental health field. I have a masters and a professional license, and work 30h/wk. My kids are pretty young (3 and 5), so this is what works for us right now, with me having a reduced schedule and therefore reduced salary.
