FYI - we received the following forwarded from our civic association list serve today. It suggests the new school will open fall of 2015.
--------------------
As the presidents of the Rock Springs, Williamsburg, and Yorktown Civic Associations, we are contacting you to request your civic association's participation on the design committee for a new elementary school located on the Williamsburg Middle School campus.
As you may know, the Superintendent's Proposed Capital Improvement Plan includes funding for a new 600 seat elementary school on the WMS site to open in the Fall of 2015. Arlington Public Schools will begin planning for the design of the addition in September in order to make our construction targets. By policy, APS invites 2 representatives from the school's immediate civic association (Rock Springs) to engage in the design committee, known as the Building Level Planning Committee or BLPC. We would also like to extend the invitation for one representative each from Williamsburg CA and Yorktown CA.
We ask that you inform your membership of this opportunity and submit your suggested names to us by the end of June. This will allow the School Board to approve BLPC membership over the summer so that we can kickoff our first meeting right away in September.
It is very likely that the meetings will be scheduled at least once or twice a month for the first several months and less frequently thereafter.
Key points:
The BLPC will work with APS and County staff and our hired architects to develop a design for the new school.
This group will NOT be discussing boundaries for this or any other school.
Meetings will begin in September, once or twice a month for about 6-9 months, with more intensity at the early stages of the process.
Need names by the end of June.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the committee or the design process/schedule.
