To the pp who suggested she was lying, I highly doubt it. The last name, while not completely unheard of, is on the rare side, plus I just don't think she is the type to lie. Plus she is married to him on Facebook![/quote]
Yeah, bc no one lies on FB right? If she wanted to work with kids there are plenty of volunteer jobs she could do or upscale preschools to work in.
But let's say for a moment that really her DH does have this fab job/salary, maybe they are in massive debt - bad investments? tax debt? over- mortgaged? Since working as a nanny isn't a very public job it easy for her work without being noticed by friends and people in their social circle.

If you SAH, you're doing God's work and we're all supposed to bow in awe at your dedication. If someone else chooses to raise children as a career, she's a lowly servant who would naturally walk out the minute she has two nickels to rub together.
Wow.

I thought nannies could make as much as or more than teachers in some cases? Maybe she likes being a nanny and wants the security of her own income (a reason for continuing to work that plenty of women cite.) Why is that so crazy?
because you are a servant. it's not just about working with children - it's about taking orders of people who, in this case, are supposedly 10 layers of status below you. so, in the evening you go to some white tie event with the president and the next morning you are driving traffic the suburbs from your $5 million georgetown house because some 100K making family's dog went missing so they need you to show up early. it's just too much for me to believe - i think some important info here is missing. to top it all - the OP's english also sounds very bad, like from someone with a HS diploma. nothing wrong with that, but just adds to the implausibility of it all.
You are ridiculous. I was a nanny for almost 10 years. For the last 2 I was working for a family that I really loved while my husband was making 260k. I was making $49k as a nanny and I loved my job, so had no reason to quit for that period of time. The only reason why I don't work for the same family anymore is because we decided to buy a house closer to his mom, since I have no family in the country. We did this based on wanting to have a baby (I already have a young child). I am glad we did, I love the area where we live now and love having his mom help with the kids, but I had to give up being a nanny because the market here is very different from DC, so now I work as an Admin and make $35k. By your description of what a nanny is (a servant, in your opinion) and how dismissive you are of people who take care of children for a living, I do feel bad for your nanny, if you have one (although I hope you don't.)
