3/4 of a mile is not far.
3/4 of a mile in the pouring rain or high heat or across ice while toting work items is. The posters whining about how lazy others are don't seem to understand that walking to commute is different then walking for exercise.
Exactly. I try to walk 3 miles a day on top of whatever running I do in the morning. But in summer I have to break it into 15 or 20 minute segments and walk slowly, or else I get very sweaty. Not a problem on the weekend if I'm in shorts, but I can't show up at the office pouring sweat. And I don't want to have to dry clean my clothes after each wear either, which I'd have to do if I walked more than a mile home in the summer. I envy people who think 90 and humid is comfortable. They must be much happier here than I.
I am lucky because I have a half mile walk to metro on either end of the commute -- so my commute alone is 2 miles round trip. Then I get out for 20 minutes at lunch. Voila, 3 miles. But it is still beastly in the summer.
