1) never tip anyone less than $5. not even a taxi or pizza. singles are insulting. cant even buy a soda.

20%. My cut is usually around $90, so I round up to about a $20 tip.

I think 20% is fair, but I don't go over $50.00 even if it means less than 20%. And that is for both of them (hair stylist and assistant) - I usually give $40.00 to the stylist and $10.00 to the assistant in separate envelopes.

Anything over $50.00 feels more like a generous gift rather than a tip.

Color and cut is 120. I tip $20. We are friends. I know she undercharges me. She would rather I not tip. We usually go to dinner/drinks and I insist on picking the tab up.

I thought the norm was 20%. That's what I do (sometimes more), but I don't get color or anything. I also give $5 to the person who washes my hair. I didn't think to do that part until I became a real grown up around 30.

30%. I have THICK hair. She has to spend more time to cut my hair. And she makes me look fabulous each time she cuts my hair.

I tip 30%. It's an $80 cut and I had been tipping $20, until someone pointed out that the price seemed to be set up to suggest a $20 tip. I wanted my stylist to know that I really value her; I've figured that the extra $5 would send that message.

I'd give $40 on that situation.

J tip 20% but round up- so if it's $17 I tip $20.

What do these people get hourly anyway? If purpose is to help with their low wages? It takes them 3 hours (some of that time I just sit waiting) to do my perm that costs $250. Tip $50. Isn't $300 for 3 hours not bad even if you exclude cost of materials?
