We are going to our 2nd year there (DC is 4) and are very happy. I was also skeptical and read a lot on DCUM, etc about the school, but the school has far exceeded my expectations. The parent community there is very nice also and there is a lot of focus on the whole child, not just what they learn in the classroom. The school is going up to 8th grade and honestly I don't see us staying that long, but for now we feel fortunate to be there.

I am possible sending my son to Capitol Hill Montessori Logan in a few weeks( He is 3 years old), we still have the option to take him to Garrison Elementary School in DC.

What are the pros and cons of a Montessori school?
Why does it seem to be so many issues with Capitol Hill Montessori Logan?

And does anyone have a child at Garrison Elementary school?

The Capitol Hill Montessori @ Logan has earned the status of being AMI- associated! Thank you to the entire staff for your hard work and all of the parents for your ongoing support as we seek full accreditation! AMI-associated schools are those in the process of meeting full recognition standards. This associated status has a time limit for the school to come into full compliance.

Thus Logan is not accredited, but still in the process.

I am a current Logan parent, my child is in a primary classroom about to finish his second year. He has had two teachers in two years and will next year have his third teacher. Despite this staffing upheaval (and yes I understand that he would have had three different teachers in three years at other schools but we signed up for Montessori, which means one teacher for three years), we have been moderately happy. It is true that the head teacher runs the school and everyone else is scared to breath without her permission. My son's first teacher was pushed out by her after 13 years at the school and some great work with my son. I don't think we will be sending my son to elementary there.

Having a principal and lead teacher fail to submit a budget for student Montessori materials for the three new classrooms, yes all three is hardly the fault of DCPS and OSSE. The failure of leadership at the school lead to the rejection of AMI certification. DCPS however could take a serious look at the program and perhaps turn things around. What a shame that the culture of the school seems to embrace mediocrity; no one wants to speak honestly about the problems at the school. James Baldwin once wrote, “Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.”

I am pretty sure that OSSE and/or DCPS are clueless in regards to getting accreditation. That is so old-school for these overseers of education. If it is not an app on their blackberry's then it is a lost cause.

No the program was not accredited.

20 years and still not officially certified by AMI.
