Show me a top earner who pays 50% in taxes. It's practically impossible. If you earn $20 million/year, live in Hawaii in a one bedroom rental, give $0 to charity and stuff your annual paycheck in the ground, never to earn a dime in interest or dividends, you still don't get there.

Well, it is incontestable that if everyone has more money due to less taxes, some amount of that will be spent on investment, some will be saved, and some will be consumed. The debate is over how much. It is pretty clear that almost all money given to a poor person will be spent. It is less clear what a rich person will do with their money. Will they buy a speed boat, stimulating the speed boat industry and increasing hiring there? Will they put it into a new business venture? Or will they save it and in what form - gold, bank deposits, the stock market, whatever?

Why do libertarians hold on to the fantasy that cutting taxes on the rich generates jobs?

I think one of the defining traits of wealthy people is that the person who earned it is more cutthroat than the one who didn't get rich. There are plenty of hard workers and stumblebums all across the income spectrum. I'm really tired of richies and wannabe richies acting like only wealthy people work hard.

There is a lot of hard work, but like you say lots of people work hard. There is also talent, but there is a surprising amount of luck. If you don't believe me, try to find entrepreneurs who have repeat success. Very few people who hit it big create a second company that does as well. Usually the second company (or product) is a bit lackluster.
